How to wash wool

Did you know that most of Shleep’s bedding and baby products can be safely washed in a regular washing machine, leaving you more time to enjoy the finer things in life – such as sleep. For those of you who think wool is hard to wash, think again. We’re here to prove you wrong. Despite our wool being oh-so soft and gentle on the skin, wool on a sheep’s back is tough enough to handle whatever Mother Nature throws at it – so it’s also able to handle your washing machine.

It’s always best to check each item’s individual care label before you start the laundry, but our machine washable products – which range from wool blankets, sheets and duvets to pillows, play mats a baby swaddles – can be safely washed in a washing machine over and over, without shrinkage or felting taking place.

We recommend choosing a wool cycle and using a wool, or mild laundry detergent. We love the Wool & Cashmere Wash by Ms Brown. If your washing machine does not have a wool cycle, then we recommend using the cold water wash or wash cycle for delicates.

Because wool is naturally stain and odour resistant, time between wash cycles can be stretched longer than you would for products made from other fibres. Less frequent washing will not only save you time but can also lower your water and electricity bills.
