Nature and nurture

Merino wool is one of the most breathable fibres known. 100% natural, wool fibres can absorb large quantities of moisture vapour and allow it to evaporate, keeping wool products more comfortable than products made from other fibres.

By creating a more stable microclimate against the skin, baby clothes, swaddles and accessories made out of Merino wool will help maintain and regulate your newborn’s body temperature. Wool’s high breathability and moisture absorption properties will keep your baby comfortable and help prevent overheating, while making sure they remain warm.

Soft and safe

We use the softest wool for you, your baby and your perfect night’s sleep. Our wool is fine Australian Merino wool, known to be the best and softest in the world. How is it so fine? Wool is measured in micron, that is, the fibre diameter of each single piece of fleece. Your hair is about 100 microns, but our Shleep Merino Jersey Swaddles are lovingly crafted with 18.5 micron Australian Merino wool.

Our Merino wool is also naturally odour resistant. Whilst babies are adorably cute, they’re also pretty good at creating some rather pungent smells. Lucky for you, our range of baby products naturally fight the build-up of unpleasant odours. In fact, wool’s unique structure actually locks away odour molecules, which are only released upon washing, keeping your baby fresh as a daisy all day long.

Non-allergenic

Did you know that it has been scientifically proven that wool is not an allergen?

A highly esteemed group of medical professionals from across the world has reviewed research papers published in the past 100 years. Their findings concluded there is no credible evidence that wool is an allergen and the group has now published a paper called ‘Debunking the Myth of Wool Allergy’.

What the group found was that if a fabric does cause prickle or itch on the skin it is because of the large diameter (micron) of the fibre – not due to the fibre being wool. You can read more about Shleep’s soft and innovative fabrics here. Or, if you’d like to find out more about wool being good for sensitive skin, The Woolmark Company – the global authority on all things wool – has published a fact sheet you can find here.
